Hard water / Mineral deposits
Water described as “hard” is high in dissolved minerals, specifically calcium and magnesium. Hard water is not a health risk, but a nuisance because of mineral buildup on fixtures, windows, screens, and anything else it hits on a regular basis.
As water moves through soil and rock, it dissolves very small amounts of minerals and holds them in the solution. Calcium
and magnesium dissolved in water are the two most common minerals that make water “hard.” The degree of hardness becomes greater as the calcium and magnesium content increases.
So what does this mean for the maintenance of your windows?
Sprinkler water is high in Calcium and Magnesium which means that it is considered “hard” water. It is very common that sprinkler water (because sprinklers are not aimed properly, or because of wind), hit your windows day after day creating hard water build-up. If this hard water is not removed on a regular basis it can become imbedded into the window and become permanent. Depending on the severity of the hard water build-up, it can be removed by special chemicals and a razor blade.
Because hard water can be such a nuisance, especially if it isn’t regularly taken care of, we recommend these tips to cut down on hard water deposits on your windows:
-Readjust your sprinklers so that less of the water will hit the windows.
-Don’t over water your grass- Only water your grass when you need to, this way less water will hit your windows and you can save one of our most precious resources.
-Every week or so take a six inch razor blade and razor off any hard water that has built up. If this is maintained it will be a lot easier to get off each time, and save you money and the head ache of trying to get it off when it is really thick, or worse case scenario, having to buy a whole new window all together.
You’ve hit the ball out the park! Inrceidble!
